Mentorship Program Launch.

The MIT EECS department offers a Graduate Application Assistance Program, in which eligible applicants are paired with current EECS doctoral students to receive feedback on personal and research statements. This program is designed for underrepresented groups, defined as those groups for which representation in the EECS PhD program at MIT is significantly less than representation in the general US population.

This initiative, called the Graduate Application Assistance Program (GAAP), will be one of the largest student-run graduate mentorship programs in the United States in its first year, pairing over 100 committed mentors with nearly 300 applicants from underrepresented backgrounds.

Featured in MIT News.

GAAP is a concerted effort made possible with the help of multiple student groups and offices within MIT, including THRIVE at EECS, the EECS Graduate Students Association, Graduate Women in Course 6, and the EECS Communication Lab, with support from the EECS Graduate Office and the Committee on Diversity Equity and Inclusion.
